Hand painted Benjarong china and porcelain

Unique to Thailand, Benjarong is highly ornamented hand painted bone china and porcelain. Decorated using enameled relief glaze, the intricate designs incorporate many of the patterns found throughout Thai Buddhist art such as the lotus flower, the orchid, butterflies, birds and insects.
The word ‘Benjarong’ loosely translates as ‘five colors’. This stems back to when the first designs of Benjarong consisted only of five colors. However, today Benjarong is painted in a wonderfully vibrant palate of rich colors that includes 18 carat gold.
Benjarong tableware (dinner, tea and coffee services) is made from bone china, whereas other Benjarong ceramic work such as lamp bases, vases, covered pots, candlesticks and small boxes are mostly made from porcelain.
